Shan State is a state of Myanmar. Shan State borders China (Yunnan) to the north, Laos to the east, and Thailand to the south, and five administrative divisions of Myanmar in the west (Kachin State, Mandalay Region, Kayin State, Kayah State, and Sagaing Region). The largest of the 14 administrative divisions by land area, Shan State covers 155,800 km2, almost a quarter of the total area of Myanmar. The state gets its name from the Burmese name for the Tai peoples: "Shan people".

Byaik Taung

Byaik Taung

It is located beside the road leading to Pin Laung from Kalaw. It is about a 15 to 20-minute drive from Kalaw by car. In the evenings, it is a serene spot surrounded by other cultivated fields. For photography enthusiasts, it is a great place to capture wide-angle scenic shots. On the opposite side of Byaik Taung, there is a small hill with a beautiful view. On top of this hill, there is a small lake and a railway line passing through the fields, which are also popular spots for photographers.

Shwe Oo Min

Just when Buddhist temples and pagodas begin to look the same, Myanmar will surprise its visitors.Shwe Oo Min Pagoda is nestled not at the mouth of a cave, but within it. While one would think that with space being somewhat limited within a cave, there would be some reservation as to how many statues should be put inside. However, enthusiasm prevailed, and the cavern walls and passages of Shwe Oo Min are covered by row after row of golden Buddha statues.

Myin Ma Hti Village is located 2 miles from Aung Ban and 4 miles from Kalaw.The climate in Myin Ma Hti is described as cool, refreshing, and peaceful.The area is known for its strong development in transportation, religion, social life, and economy.Over 2,000 years ago, King Thi Ri Dham Ma Thaw Ka enshrined a sacred relic in the cave, which is why it is also known as the "U Nannalon Sacred Relic Cave."To the east of Myin Ma Hti Cave lies Myin Ma Hti Mountain, which stands at 1,075 feet high.

Inle Lake

The people of Inle Lake (see Intha), live in four cities bordering the lake, in numerous small villages along the lake's shores, and on the lake itself. The entire lake area is in Nyaung Shwe township. The population consists predominantly of Intha, with a mix of other Shan, Taungyo, Pa-O (Taungthu), Danu, Kayah, Danaw and Bamar ethnicities. Most are devout Buddhists and live in simple houses of wood and woven bamboo on stilts; they are largely self-sufficient farmers.

Phaung Taw OO

Phaung Taw Oo Pagoda Festival is the biggest annual event at Inle Lake, the holiest site in southern Shan State. Held between September and October for 18 days, the festival dates are based on the Myanmar Lunar Calendar. The pagoda houses five Buddha images, completely covered in gold leaf. Only men can apply gold leaf to these images. During the festival, four Buddha images are taken around Inle Lake, while one remains at the temple.

Naung Cho Cloud Sea ☁️ 🌊With the annual forming of the sea of clouds, local and foreign visitors have begun camp-ing at Sapphagon Mountain in Nawnghkio to enjoy the cloud phenomenon.The clouds began to form in mid-November at the 2,400-foot-height above the Dahtawady River and below the mountain top. Visitors spend the night at the camp to enjoy viewing the sea of clouds, visible in the morning, with the most beautiful and dense clouds seen in December and January.

Ga Nan Kya

The Ga Nan Kya Waterfall, located near Ywangan town in Shan State, Myanmar, is a popular natural attraction. Its name translates to "Crab Fall," though the origin of this name isn't definitively known. The waterfall is easily accessible from Mandalay, with signposts guiding visitors from Myai village. A short, pleasant walk from the parking area leads to the falls. Recent improvements to the path ensure a safe descent. The area has become more developed with stalls and shops catering to tourists.

BaWa Than TaYar

Railway bridge located near Taung Lay Lone village in Hsi Hseng Township, southern Shan State. Based on the surrounding page content, this bridge is famously known as the "Bawa Thanthaya Bridge" which translates to "Cycle of Life Bridge.The name “Bawa Thanthaya” became popular after the bridge appeared in the 1956 Burmese film Bawa Thanthaya, directed by U Thu Kha. The film used the bridge as a symbolic backdrop to reflect the ups and downs of human life—mirroring the bridge’s winding.

Mya-Tha-Bate

MyaThaBate Blue Pond located in Taung Kyel Village, Ywangan Township, Southern Shan State, Myanmar. The pond is famous for its crystal-clear, deep blue water, which appears almost glowing due to the minerals and depth of the water. Locals say it has existed for hundreds of years, and it remains full year-round, even during the dry season.It’s a peaceful, sacred spot—some even believe it holds spiritual significance.

Haipa waterfall

Haipa waterfall is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Myanmar located in Mong Hsu Township, southern Shan State.It is formed with 7 to 9 steps of waterfall and a natural scene filled with various species of wildlife and birds. People from Yangon and Mandalay can visit Haipa waterfall through Lashio-Hsipaw road.Around hundreds of people usually visit the waterfall on weekend and public holidays and thousands of visitors pay a visit during summer holidays as well as Thingyan period.
